Christian Schmid is a Senior Partner and Global Leader at Boston Consulting Group, where he leads BCG’s Global Banking and Corporate & Investment Banking business. He also heads BCG’s global Digital Assets initiative, advising G-SIBs, central banks, regulators, and market infrastructure providers on digital strategy, AI transformation, and next-generation financial systems.
With more than 25 years of experience advising financial institutions and public sector leaders, Christian works at the intersection of technology, capital markets, and policy. His work increasingly focuses on digital sovereignty, systemic resilience, and the strategic implications of AI, cloud infrastructure, and digital money for Europe’s competitiveness.
He has led large-scale AI transformations, supported the build-out of financial market infrastructure consortia, and advised on strategies addressing value migration toward non-bank financial institutions and technology platforms. Through his engagement with systemic banks and regulators, he brings a system-level perspective on how Europe can strengthen technological autonomy while remaining globally integrated.
Christian serves as Co-Chair of the Institute of International Finance (IIF) Digital Asset Forum and is Chairman of the Board of BCG Expand. Earlier in his career, he served as a Commanding Officer of a tank company in the Swiss Army. He holds an MSc in Engineering with distinction from ETH Zurich.
