Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu is a distinguished central banking leader, financial sector policymaker, and Chartered Banker with nearly three decades of cross-sector experience spanning banking, financial stability, regulatory oversight, strategic communications, government relations, and media. She currently serves as Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, where she plays a key role in shaping monetary policy and advancing financial sector resilience, price stability, and sustainable economic growth in Ghana.

In her current role, Mrs. Asante-Asiedu provides senior policy and supervisory leadership across critical areas of the financial system, including prudential regulation, banking and non-bank financial institutions supervision, financial stability oversight, resolution and restructuring frameworks, and core institutional operations. Through this mandate, she contributes to strengthening regulatory effectiveness, deepening confidence in the financial system, advancing reform implementation, and reinforcing the resilience of Ghana’s financial architecture.

She also plays a significant role in national financial governance and macro-financial coordination through her service on the boards of key institutions, including the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Cocoa Marketing Company (CMC), Ghana EXIM Bank, and the Data Protection Commission. In addition, she serves on the Financial Stability Council, supporting inter-agency coordination to safeguard systemic stability and ensure coherence in financial sector policy across institutions.

Prior to her appointment to the Bank of Ghana, Mrs. Asante-Asiedu built a distinguished career in commercial banking, where she held senior leadership roles and drove strategic growth initiatives across SME banking, consumer banking, branch distribution, high-net-worth segments, and bancassurance. She is widely recognized as a pioneer of women’s banking in Ghana, having led the development of Access Bank’s award-winning W Initiative,one of Africa’s leading women-focused banking platforms, credited with advancing financial inclusion for women and expanding access to finance for women-led enterprises.

Earlier in her career, during Ghana’s transition to multi-party constitutional rule, she led JoyNews, one of Ghana’s most influential news platforms, where she contributed to shaping national discourse and strengthening media plurality. She later served as a strategic communications consultant to international development partners, including the World Bank and the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID), supporting policy communication, stakeholder engagement, and institutional reform initiatives.
Mrs. Asante-Asiedu holds an MBA from the GIMPA Business School and an MA in Journalism Studies from Cardiff University, UK. She is also an alumna of Saïd Business School, University of Oxford; The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania; Marquette University’s Les Aspin School for Government; and the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana.

She is widely recognized for her leadership in financial sector development, inclusive finance, and institutional transformation. Her work reflects a leadership philosophy rooted in strengthening financial stability, advancing inclusion, and building resilient financiais systems that support long-term economic development.
