Mr. Alvin Tan serves in the Government of Singapore as Minister of State for the Ministry of Trade & Industry, and the Ministry of National Development. Mr. Tan also serves on the board of the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
At MTI, he looks after the tourism sector, start-ups, advanced manufacturing and trade with Latin America and Africa. He led efforts to sign two landmark free trade agreements in Latin America, with the Pacific-Alliance Singapore Free Trade Agreement and the Mercosur-Singapore Free Trade Agreement.
At MND, his focus is on the management of greenery, biodiversity conservation, wildlife management and expanding parks, nature reserves and other green spaces. He also oversees the Municipal Services Office, which coordinates and improves the delivery of municipal services to residents.
At MAS, Mr. Tan has been driving the development of the financial sector, particularly in the areas of fintech, green finance and financial sector talent development.
Mr. Tan has worked in the private, public and non-profit sectors. Before joining the government as Minister of State, he served on LinkedIn’s Asia Pacific management team, expanding LinkedIn’s businesses in the region and helping economies prepare for the rapidly changing nature of work using analytics and data solutions.
Mr. Tan holds a First Class Honours in Economics from Sydney University and a Master in Public Policy from Harvard University. He was awarded the 2008 Tan Kah Kee Foundation Postgraduate Scholarship, and the International and Global Affairs Fellowship from the Belfer Centre of Science and International Affairs at Harvard.
