Gavin Maclean

Gavin Maclean is Managing Director and Head of Payment Product, Europe within HSBC Global Payment Solutions. He leads a team of around 50 product managers, driving strategy, innovation, client propositions and commercialisation across payables, receivables, commercial cards and virtual accounts for corporate and institutional clients.

With 20+ years in transaction banking, Gavin has deep expertise in instant payments and the modernisation of payment rails, shaped by hands-on leadership across Faster Payments, platform launches and large-scale regulatory change. He’s focused on how new forms of money—such as tokenised deposits—can improve liquidity, settlement certainty and client experience, and is a regular industry speaker on the future of payments and cash management.
